Check out Girl Be Heard. Formerly known as Project Girl Performance Collective, Girl Be Heard is a bunch of girls who use theater to empower themselves. They focus on social issues affecting them not only at home but around the world as well. These girls range in age from 12-21, and they engage in writing workshops to develop performances about issues like race, body image, relationships, violence against women, etc. Girl Be Heard is based out of NYC and they've performed everywhere from local festivals to the United Nations. They've got their first performance tonight as the re-branded Girl Be Heard, and even people like Nigel Barker (famous photographer from America's Next Top Model) and women's rights leader Gloria Steinem are huge supporters.
